We had visited several wineries while staying in Oregon last week. This one came recommended but we were terribly disappointed. We arrived a little bit after 11am. We were the only ones there. The man behind the counter we found to be inattentive, and gave me the feeling that he felt very "put out" having to deal with us (there was only 2 of us). This was a vast contrast from the welcoming and friendly atmosphere we had experienced at other places so far. The tasting room is crowded with wine barrels and equipment, the view up at the winery is beautiful so we opted to sit outside. Every time we went in for our next tasting he just poured it and then didn't tell us anything about it....what winery doesn't tell you about what you are drinking? This man just couldn't be bothered. I only liked the Syrah but ended up not buying anything (this was the only place I didn't purchase anything). The tasting itself was pricey $20.00 - more than I paid anywhere else. I personally would not go back here, with so many to choose from there is no reason. Hope others have a better experience.
My wife and inlaws stumbled upon VIDON quite by accident. It was the highlight of our entire day out visiting the valley's vineyards. While it's true that the person who poured wasn't nearly so verbose as those at other vineyards, he was very polite and the wine spoke for itself. The views were amazing, the wine superb, but meeting the owner was a special treat. Don came by and chatted with our family. He didn't come by because we dropped thousands of dollars on wine and memberships, he came by to talk about wine and life for no other reason than we were there, and it was beautiful. Our family HIGHLY recommends visiting VIDON if you're lucky enough to be in the area (and unpretentious enough to taste wine at a real mom and pop working winery that isn't pretending to be a hotel lobby.)
A boutique winery with amazing wines and a lovely setting you will not be disappointed. Buy a bottle and sit out out on the grounds and relax and take in the beautiful hillside views. Don is a great host and if you only knew his background... it doesn't take a Rocket scientist to make wine.. or does it?! Tasting fees are $20.
Absolutely the highlight of our day trip to the area. David was entertaining and highly knowledgeable without pretense. Plus a solid scientific bent was refreshing.
Don helped put men in space, so all we can say is these wines are out of this world! It's not often the owner/winemaker is even on site, much less behind the counter pouring. This is truly a one of a kind tasting experience.
